4 Ideas for a Plastic-Free Father’s Day Gift

4 Ideas for a Plastic-Free Father’s Day Gift

Father’s Day is coming up and if you’re in need of a gift for Dad without all the extra plastic, here are some ideas for you!

Quality Time

The best gift is some quality time with your dad! Go for a surf with your dad. Take him out to lunch, to a baseball game or on a fishing trip. Or just go grab a beer with your old man. The activity doesn’t matter as long as you’re spending some good quality time with your dad.

Take the time to ask him about his childhood and what he’s learned after all these years. I’m not sure why it took me so long but during the pandemic, I’d call my parents and ask them all the things I’d never asked them before.

Both my parents are immigrants, so I asked them about when they first came to the US. Their stories are amazing and I was in awe of their courage. Everyone has a story, use this holiday to get to know your dad better!

Experiences

If you can’t spend some quality time with your dad, give him an experience gift. As things are getting back to normal, music and sporting events are coming back and we’re able to do things we’ve been missing for the last year. Here are some experience gift ideas:

  • sporting event
  • concert
  • kayaking tour
  • boat tour
  • sailing lesson
  • winery or brewery tour
  • dance class
  • cooking class
  • round of golf

Whatever your dad loves, I’m sure there’s some experience gift you can purchase for him. Or if he doesn’t have a specific hobby, a class or tour can expose him to new things and he can pick up a new hobby!

Memberships

Does your dad love the local theater, museum, or zoo? Purchase a membership for him! Memberships come with many benefits such as free parking, early entrance or previews of special events. Not only are you giving your dad some added benefits but you’re supporting something your dad loves!

Consumables

If none of the above work for your dad, consider a consumable gift. By consumable I mean something that gets used or eaten up. A few plastic-free consumable gifts ideas for Dad include a bottle of his favorite cologne, a bottle of whiskey, scotch, or wine.

When choosing consumables go for something package-free or packaged in glass. Glass is nearly infinitely recyclable and there’s actually a market for recycled glass. Consumables are a great way to give a physical gift without the extra waste and clutter.

By giving your dad any of these options for Father’s Day you’ll avoid extra plastic waste and avoid cluttering your dad’s house with more stuff.

What do you think? Can you choose one of these options this Father’s Day?
