Ocean Protection

Ocean Protection

Why am I for the ocean? Well, first the ocean is my happy place. I grew up playing at the beach, body boarding, and later learning how to surf. Now that I have kids of my own, I want them to be able to experience all the glory and wonder of the ocean without the plague of plastic pollution.

My love for the beach started early

Plastic is one of the many threats to our oceans. Warming temperatures cause the ocean to have less oxygen which causes ocean acidification. Acidification causes the shells of various animals to become thin or worn away. The ocean absorbs carbon dioxide and helps protect us from climate change but it’s ability to do so is weakened when we destroy it’s health with plastic, overfishing, oil drilling, and other threats.

Did you know that every second breath we take is from the ocean? We think of trees as the lung of our earth but the ocean covers much more of the earth and provides just as much, if not more oxygen. So, in protecting and allowing our oceans to thrive, it protects the rest of our earth and ourselves. Are you team ocean?
