Preparing for your first child can be an equally exciting and stressful time. Especially during these crazy times, sometimes you just need a simple list. Here are my 5 plastic-free baby essentials.
When you first start off on your plastic-free journey, it can seem daunting. But I like to tell newbies to eliminate before finding replacements. Here are 10 things I stopped buying when I started living plastic-free.
A good first aid kit comes in handy when you have young kids. It seems like once a week one of my kids will scrape their knees or find new ways of injuring themselves. But traditional band aids and ointments are made with plastic and packaged in plastic. Here are some plastic-free options for first aid kit essentials.
Band Aids are probably the first thing you (or your kids) go to the first aid kit for. If your kids are like mine, every tiny cut and bump calls for a band aid. Patch has many types of biodegradable band aids made from bamboo and packaged in cardboard tubes.
Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties that make it beneficial for minor cuts. After washing your cut with soap, apply a little bit of coconut oil over the cut.
Studies have show that when virgin coconut oil is applied, a cut heals much faster than without it. You can find coconut oil in glass jars in most major supermarkets and big box stores.
Few things are more annoying than an itchy bug bite. Having a soothing anti-itch cream in your first aid kit is key. Skip the hydrocortisone in a plastic tube and choose an itch relief cream in a metal tin.
Better yet, keep an Aloe Vera plant in your house! It’s a beautiful house plant but you can also cut off a leaf and squeeze the gel out onto your bug bite for some instant relief.
I was a gymnast when I was younger and with all that bouncing around I was constantly twisting an ankle or injuring my wrist. Having a good elastic bandage is key part of a good first aid kit.
This is organic cotton one with Velcro is a good alternative to those with metal claws that normally come with elastic bandages.
Finally, a good first kit always includes a few pieces of gauze to help clean up or absorb blood. These organic cotton facial rounds are a good option.
Once you’re finished you just toss them in the washer!
What do you think? Is your first aid kit in need of a makeover or does it need restocking? What are some of your essential first aid kit items? Tell me in the comments!
